care for our own poor in more effective ways than having the federal government tell us how to care for our poor." one of the magnificent things about this country is the idea that states are the laboratories of democracy. do not let the government telling states what kind of training and medicare they have to have. if the state gets in trouble, we can step in to help them. the right approach is one that relies on the brilliance of our people and states, not the federal government. >> we are still on the economy but another part of it. this is segment 3, the economy -- entitlements. the first question goes to you, mr. president. do you see a major difference between the two of you on it? -- on social security? >> we have a somewhat similar position. it is socially sound. it will have to be tweaked. the basic structure is sound. i want to talk about the values behind social security and medicare. medicare is the big driver of our deficit. my grandmother helped to raise me. my grandfather died a while back. my grandmother died three days before i was elected president. she was indepen

upheaval of some kind. i'm not sure, but neither party can govern and that low of and approve or rating without something happening sizable. i think the other thing is that this fiscal cliff, and i know we will be talking about it, it dominates the news, i do not know how we avoid it, but i think it is conscionable that the markets will start to react -- possible the the markets will react if we start to see sequestration, the bush tax cuts, the debt limit, all of these things that go to make up the fiscal cliff, i think there is a realization about the damage it could do to america's economy. it may force section on the part of the congress and the president -- force action on the part of the congress and the president. this is the most clear campaign i have observed. i still believe there is going to be a strong motivation of us, for a variety of motivations, maybe not all good or all bad, to try to resolve this issue for the sake of the country. maybe i am digging for the pony, but i believe that that has got to happen. there is ample pressure. i will say that this majority leader ac

to the united states, its governments, and its people, this -- catastrophe will only increase our solidarity to entrench the hopes and objectives in which ambassador chris stevens believed, we shall defeat the backward terrorists who do not represent libya, who do not represent islam. islam is a religion of tolerance, peace, and love, just as president obama said, from this platform two days ago. our future is a future that will be charted by people like chris stevens, not people like his killers. in this context, i would like to express my condolences to the libyan people and to others for the death of the person who has joined the long list of martyrs from five days ago. mr. president, i would like to express our deep appreciation for the understanding showed by the u.s. administration following that incident. let me stress that my country is determined to pursue the perpetrators and to bring them to justice. we shall make our utmost to strengthen the necessary protection granted to diplomatic and consular missions, and to insure the safety of their employees and facilities. this painful e

debates later on. maybe you two can negotiate that. if you cut government benefits -- a secretly recorded video of mitt romney at a private fund- raiser was made public -- let's take a look. >> 47% of the people -- who will vote for the president a matter what. who believe the government has responsibility to care for them. who believe they are entitled to health care and food and housing, you name it. that is an entitlement. >> texas -- in 2010, 30.5% of texans filing era -- return paid no income tax. there is no data on how many texans get government assistance, but the census bureau found 24% get social security. 20 -- 14% did retirement income. 5% disability bed -- benefits and 14% from strands. mr. cruz, do you believe that government has a responsibility to care for them? >> of course not. i agree with mitt romney when he says his comments were poorly phrased. keefe said they were in elegantly stated. i think there is a difference. part of the philosophy of president obama is trying to get as many americans as possible dependent on government so that the democrats can stay in power

about a stimulus and hiring more government workers and having the government making investments. of course, he talks about raising taxes. they plan to raise taxes on the american people and that will kill jobs. we want to create jobs and not kill jobs in this country. [applause] we also heard this plan are raising taxes and cutting medicare. in fact, there has been a study released this week. the people look at his spending plans and all of the debt they create and interest that its charge. he will raise taxes on the middle class as well by some $4,000 per family. the american people do not want more taxes. they want less spending and more growth. we will do that and get america back on a balanced budget. [applause] i do not want to raise taxes on any one. this president seems to think that keeping our taxes the same as they are now is a huge tax cut. only in washington would do thing keeping taxes as they are is a huge tax cut. hot i will find a way to bring our taxes down -- i will find a way to bring down our taxes. we will give the middle class a tax break. with occupying forces and the israeli government. the settler is attack should not surprise anyone, for it is the inherent code on the continuation of occupation anti-dormant policy that deems the satisfaction to be the absolute priority. it is that isreali curriculum and extremist opinions that are ripe with hatred and are rooted in discriminatory laws created and enacted over the years against the palestinian people, as well as by the security apparatus which provide excuse after excuse for the accelerated -- the fabricate excuses for soldiers who have committed what are clearly considered crimes and acts of murder, torture, and abuse. over the past year since the convening of the general assembly's previous assembly, the occupying insisted -- it is a campaign aimed at altering the mankind.s it is a campaign of ethnic cleansing against the palestinian people via demolition of their homes and prevention of their construction and residency rights and the denial of basic .ervices and schools they took the city and prevent millions of palestinians from 3 accessing its schools, church

the world with insights that god gave us our rights and not the government. [cheers and applause] these are rights which we have. i love america. my confidence in the future comes from my passion for this country and for the people of this country. do you realize how unusual we are as a people? i do not know how it began, but it is here. it is in our hearts. some years ago when i was serving as governor of my state, the then president of israel came to boston. i happen to have a lunch with him in someone's apartment. someone said to him, "what you think about america's involvement in iraq?" he said, "before i answer that, i need to put this into context." america is the greatest nation in the history of earth. i say this because of this -- in the history of the earth, whenever there has been war and conflict, the nation that wins takes land away from the nation that loses because land has always been the source of value on the planet." he said, "one nation in history, one nation, has laid on the lives of hundreds and thousands of its sons and daughters and has taken no land. amer

created his own business. took him years. hard work. the government did not help. there were certain important principles he lived by. if you work hard every day you get an opportunity to succeed. not a guarantee, but an opportunity. he also believed if you play by the rules, you would be rewarded. if you did not, there would be consequences. it is amazing how much this country has changed in the last four years. the results of this change. it is amazing what the impact that has had on our government, economy, and jobs. >> thank you. our first session will be -- our first question will be directed to the congresswoman. >> you have a consistent record of voting along party lines. we have seen more than our fair share of negative commercials during this campaign. many americans have grown tired of the growing popularity in between political parties and ideologies. are you willing to compromise party ideals for the benefit of the state and of the nation? please give an example of a time you worked with members of the opposing party for the betterment of nevada. >> thank you for that que

, we have surveillance techniques capable that we can utilize. the federal government should be doing it. but we have to -- we should have already passed the dream act for these children in this state who through no fault of their own are here. they have no country. all they want is the american dream. ted likes to talk about liberty, but he only wants liberty for people he agrees with. liberty for these kids means becoming a citizen. why we turned them down over and over is beyond me. we should pass the greenback. -- the dream act already. finally, we should have a worker program to identify people here. they should pay taxes. then we should have some kind of clear pathway. it does not mean the front of the line. we can make whatever requirements we want. but we cannot continue to stick our head in the sand. this is too important, too important for our state. if we do not do anything, we will have the same discussion. >> mr. cruz, do you support a path to citizenship for the 1.6 texas? >> i do not. and let me say more broadly, i think there is a very clear divide. as i said before, i

on government. we are now spending 42% of our economy on government. i want to go to the path of growth that puts americans to work with more money coming in. >> you are saying to get the job done it has to be balanced. >> if we are serious, we have to take a balanced responsible approach. it is not just when it comes to individual taxes. let's talk about corporate taxes. i have identified areas where we can make a change that would help the economy. the oil industry gets $4 billion per year in corporate welfare. they get deductions the small businesses do not get. does anyone think exxonmobil needs extra money when they make money every time you go to the pump? why wouldn't we want to eliminate that? tax breaks for corporate jets? if you have a corporate jet, you can pay for a freight and not get a special break. when it comes to corporate taxes, governor romney has said he has wanted to in a revenue- neutral way close loopholes and deductions. that would bring down the corporate rate. i want to do the same thing. i have actually identified how we can do that. part of the way is to not
